Many Christians will say that “God is good all the time”. In the same breath they will say that God is the One who causes many tragedies. Doug Webb takes a look at these allegations to see if they are accurate. He gives alternative reasons for why tragedies and hardships occur.
"I Was Framed!" Signed, God
GOD: Accused and Excused
The God on Trial Series is an entertaining, yet in-depth bible study that can be used in groups or individually. The first two books are in Volume 1 and the third book is in Volume 2. This is not a typical Bible study. Doug is taking you on a journey to answer the simple question: Is God responsible for everything bad in our lives and on the earth?
"The detective idea worked great, not only has a hook, but also as method for doing exegesis. Who wouldn't have more fun looking for clues and solving a mystery rather than studying hermeneutics? The process of starting with the mystery and then going through scriptural evidence worked really well. We're left hanging with a few questions, but it seems like these will be addressed by follow-up books in the series. The book probably works best for tweens or young adults, but I think a wide range of ages would find it useful. This sort of book is an important corrective to misuses of some cliches -- "God has His reasons" or "Everything happens for a reason" -- while digging into what's going on in these situations."
"What a great read! It grabs your attention with thought provoking questions and does not let go! Even at the end you want it to continue. Unlike some books with lots of scripture references, it does not become boring, it just continues to draw you in."
From the author: "Remember, we are solving a mystery. We are going to gather clues as we go along. There will be some conclusions we can make on some points but we will have to be patient and wait until the end and watch all the pieces of the puzzle come together."
